Salman Khan sees sunshine at night

Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif at the music launch of ' Singh Is Kinng ' at Enigma, JW Marriott, Mumbai, on Thursday late evening, June 26. Photo Credit: Sawf News June 28, 2008 (Sawf News) - Bollywood hunks love to go around with shadow stubble and Salman is no exception. The trouble is, as you grow old the shadow stubble looks increasingly like sunshine stubble, thanks to the pesky grey facial foliage that inexorably sprouts to replace the youthful black crop. The problem gets exacerbated if your morning starts in the evening, as Salman's does. At the music launch of Singh is Kinng at Enigma, JW Marriott on Thursday late evening, June 26, Salman was the unexpected chief guest. Unexpected because the Big B was also invited to the event though, for reasons best known to himself, Bachchan left the event before it even started. But that is a different story. Salman's presence at the launch came as a surprise for the media which were under the impression that Amitabh Ba...

Neetu Chandra says she`s single and happy—how do you manage that?

Actress Neetu Chandra of Traffic Signal fame is single and says marriage is nowhere on the cards right now. "What is the spelling of marriage? My career has just begun and I am not seeing anyone," Neetu said. But the actress, who has been signed on for four films this year, has interesting ideas for her wedding, whenever it takes place. "When I intend to get married, I'd arrange a proper guys' gathering just like a swayamvar to find the ideal guy. I'd make the guys hold a board in their hands with their best qualities written on it and then I'd choose the best one," laughed Neetu.

With five films already in hand, Harman is nervous!

Harman Baweja, who debuts in the much-hyped futuristic film Love Story 2050 , admits that he's truly nervous about getting signed on by five top filmmakers even before his first film is out. The newcomer is the only debutant to have got five big banner projects in his kitty, including films by established directors like Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Ashutosh Gowariker, Anees Bazmee and Manmohan Shetty. Harman is nervous and says there is already a lot of pressure to perform and live up to these ace directors' expectations. "These are such great filmmakers. They've just seen my first film's rushes... that is my baby step towards filmdom. Pressure increases manifold since it is happening even before my first release," the actor said. Harman revealed little-known facets about his personality like his passion for dance and how he had learnt Kathak for over a year. "I love dancing though I am not technically into it. Kamal Haasan's Tandav inspired me...

Ekta Kapoor flushes down her rules for `favourite` cousin

Everybody has been wondering why Ekta Kapoor allowed her favourite actress Prachi Desai to work opposite Farhan Akhtar in Rock On when she has been openly opposed to the idea of others leaving her to pursue the big screen. The reason behind the bending of rules is that Rock On director Abhishek Kapoor, better known as Gattu, is Ekta's favourite cousin. And there's absolutely nothing she would refuse him. Ekta admits her fondness for Abhishek and said: "Yes, he's my favourite brother after Tusshar. Gattu is my dad's sister's son. So we're very close. We don't meet that often any longer. We're both busy doing our own thing. When we were younger, we used to meet very regularly. We've been on holidays together, just Gattu and me. But he's my coolest brother. And there's nothing I wouldn't do for him." When Abhishek decided to cast Farhan Akhtar as the lead in Rock On , he was on the lookout for a fresh face for the f...

Amrita Arora hates being called anorexic

Size zero is the newest fad in Bollywood. After K areena Kapoor , the latest slim-as-a-reed looking actress is Amrita Arora , but she doesn't like to be labelled anorexic. "I hate it when Kareena and now I are called anorexic. What a terrible description. We both love our meals. Trust me, Kareena eats heartily and so do I," Amrita says. "It is only my face. Like Kareena's, I too have a chubby face. It's just that for the first time in my life I've lost weight on my face. So has Kareena," she adds. Amrita, who will be seen with Kareena in Golmaal Returns , says she didn't go to extremes to lose weight. "I'm doing nothing out of the way. I still go to the gym only once a day and I'm not starving myself," she says. She admits, however, that Kareena has a positive influence on her. "Kareena is my best friend. And like all best friends she has a positive influence on me,” she says. “She introduced me to power yoga ...

Bollywood gossip: What`s cooking in filmdom

Actress Diya Mirza , known for her prim and proper image in films, is currently enjoying being bad in Suparn Verma's Acid Factory . Diya is the only woman in the entire script and plays a girl locked up in a factory with four men with apparently no way out. She is being made to do the most impossible stunts, but the actress doesn't mind. "What I enjoy is being one of the boys. I'm doing everything that the boys are being made to do. And that includes all the stunts," Diya reveals. "After playing dainty, utterly feminine roles I'm enjoying being put on a harness, dangling from ropes, jumping from heights, kicking and punching. In spite of my dainty image, I've always been a tomboy," she added. What Diya enjoys even more is being mean. "My character is bad through and through. No apologies. No justification. She just enjoys being bad. I like bringing that dark side of me out on...

Don’t like this Bollywood film? Get your money back

Anti-pimple creams, credit cards, items at department stores — now add Bollywood movies to the list of things with money-back guarantees. The makers of “Mukhbir,” a new film, are so confident it will do well they are offering a refund (minus taxes, of course) to people who don’t like it. The film, a spy thriller, doesn’t really have a major Bollywood star but this promotional offer might just help draw in audiences on the lookout for some free entertainment. Maybe it will also set a trend for films in India. One where the audience is always right. Consider a few fictitious examples - ‘ Hey, Shah Rukh Khan looks too old to play a college kid. The plot is implausible. Give me my money back .’ ‘ Didn’t like the acting. And the movie was an hour too long. Refund please. ‘ ‘ Boring item songs. Pathetic fight scenes. Waste of time. At least I’ll get my money back. ‘ Film producers won’t be too happy to see thousands of people clamouring for their money back. Will they actually ...

Reliance aims for the stars in Bollywood tie-up

Indian billionaire industrialist Anil Ambani has moved a step closer to building a media group spanning -Hollywood and Bollywood, this week announcing a partnership with Hindi film superstar Amitabh Bachchan. The tie-up, which follows news last week that Mr Ambani was in talks for a similar deal with US director Steven Spielberg, covers films and television and could eventually lead to Mr Bachchan acting in a Hollywood production. This would be a first for India's best-known senior male lead actor and would be a milestone for efforts at the corporate level to bring the world's two most prolific movie-making industries closer together. "Looking at the profile of Reliance, which is rather large, we cannot do away with the possibility of being involved in some of the productions coming out of Hollywood," Mr Bachchan told the Financial Times. "We will be working as talent [in Hollywood] in case there are projects that require our talent." Mr Ambani has proposed ...

When a eunuch bowled Salman over!

S alman Khan will have a unique contestant on his television game show, 10 Ka Dum, this weekend. Laxmi Narayan Tripathi, a eunuch, reduced the audience to tears with her quick wit, humour and nakhras. Even Salman, a showman himself, gave Laxmi centrestage. The eunuch, who made news when a documentary on her life was screened at the Mumbai festival and television channels, was the next contestant in the knockout round along with Aditya Prabhu and Manpreet Singh. Though she lost the round, the evening clearly belonged to her. Salman particularly looked disappointed when Laxmi didn't make it to the next round. If you think Laxmi is an exception to the eunuch community, watch out for her beautiful companion whom Salman invited as a contestant on the show. Catch this episode of 10 Ka Dum on Friday at 9 pm on Sony Entertainment Television.

Akshay Kumar's 'Singh' performance at IIFA

Akshay Kumar's Singh Is Kinng performance at IIFA. Photo Credit: Sawf News June 24, 2008 (Sawf News) - While Akshay Kumar ’s initial makeover as a Sikh in Singh is Kinng may have ruffled some feathers in the community, his spirited promotion of the film at IIFA Awards earlier this month in Bangkok struck the right notes. Akshay performed with so much gusto that at one point he jumped too high for his own good and ended up spraining his leg. However, he continued to dance despite the pain, which made him limp around after his performance. Following the performance, a group of Sikhs got up from amidst the audience and vociferously screamed "Singh is King". Akshay Kumar's Singh Is Kinng performance at IIFA. Celebrity Fib: Salman Khan is just another Bollywood actor for me, says Katrina Kaif

Katrina Kaif and Salman Khan in a file photo. June 19, 2008 (Sawf News) - Bollywood stars lie to the press, with a straight because they are good actors, as often as the tabloid press spins falsehoods about them. Our new column, Celebrity Fib, focuses on star duplicity and offers a prize of Rs 2,000/- to anyone who can logically explain it. Every week, Celebrity Fib will ask a straightforward question to a star, the answer to which we and our readers already know, but a question that the star will not answer honestly. Our question this week is directed at Katrina Kaif. "Who is Salman Khan to you?" Katrina says, " Just another Bollywood star." However, since we don't equate pedantry with honesty, and are not amused by facetiousness, we reject her answer and take it upon ourselves give one. Katrina is Salman's girlfriend of nearly four years. Salman is also her mentor in the industry, guiding and shaping her career. Katrina is frequently seen at Salman...

Bollywood: Please don't blog

Blogging is just a baby in India, with people learning to show their true personality to those who matter the most, be it friends, family or colleagues. What evolved as a means to communicate with fellow net surfers has been given a new definition by Bollywood. From Amitabh Bachchan to Amir Khan to Ram Gopal Verma to Tom Dick and Harry, everybody is expressing their opinions through blogs. Whatever is in the blog is national news be it Amitabh Bachchan's criticism of other game shows or Amir Khan calling his dog Shah Rukh. Looks like they are completely fascinated with this latest sensation of personal writing as they rightly get the response they might have expected. The current trend indicates that the list of Bollywood bloggers might go up soon. Blogs are seen as a means to express opinion and not to take it as an opportunity to bring down others. It's absolutely fine as long as the content is of national, social or human interest. But here dirty linen is being washed in pub...

Aamir Khan bends his rules for nephew's sake!

Aamir Khan is leaving no stone unturned to have a spectacular launch for his nephew Imran Khan . Countdown to the release of Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na has begun and Aamir is a busy man nowadays, planning a lavish premiere of the film, which is not just his home production but also the launchpad of his nephew Imran. Aamir is not known to indulge in such acts of pomp and extravagance. Even his last film Taare Zameen Par was released at a low-key premiere and there wasn’t any celebration party after the film’s super-success because Aamir apparently didn’t want to blow his own horn from the rooftops. So strict is Aamir about his principles that he even did not file any nomination for TZP at IIFA despite the fact that the movie could have swept the board at the award function. Living by his own rules and principles, Aamir, however, is making an exception for Imran. Aamir has already dedicated ‘Jaane Tu’ as his gesture of gratitude towards uncle Nasir Hussain for launching him in Qayamat Se ...

I've never met Shahrukh or any of the other stars. What are...

After directing Raju Chacha and Blackmail, Anil Devgan is returning with ‘H aal-e-Dil ’, starring newcomers Nakul Mehta, Amita Pathak and Adhyayan Suman and produced by Kumar Mangat Pathak. A source says, “For his third, Anil Devgan wanted to choose a story that was universally accepted as he didn’t want to go wrong this time. What better than ‘Dilwale Dulhaniya La Jain ga’ (DDLJ) a timeless love story that has been running successfully for the last ten years? Like DDLJ, Anil’s ‘Haal-e-Dil’ is about two strangers, Shekhar and Sanjana (a young boy and girl played by Nakul and Amita) living in London, going on a holiday but missing the train, embarking together on a journey in Europe and finally falling in love. Piracy 'rife' at Bollywood stalls

The Indian films, usually with a theme involving star-crossed lovers, have a global audience. But the industry is being hit by piracy, and in the UK, the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) estimates 70% of DVDs found on sale in markets and stalls are fake, compared to only 5% of Hollywood films and music. On a busy shopping day in Southall in west London, Bollywood music blasts out from the front of several shops. Walking past the sellers of sweet-smelling corn snacks, fruit and veg or brightly-coloured saris, you find yourself not too far from stalls offering Bollywood DVDs and CD soundtracks. In the past year trading standards officers and the police have closed down at least seven shops in Southall and raided warehouses where they have found multiple DVD burners. However information keeps coming in that pirated copies of the latest new Bollywood blockbusters - just out in cinemas - are on sale. Flimsy wrappings "The people behind the production of this piracy are the main...

Lalu wants to play politician in a Bollywood film

Railway Minister Lalu Prasad says he will be able to do more justice to the role of a politician in a Bollywood film than the professional actors who "wear caps" and attempt to play the part. The RJD chief, who has also been bitten by the blogging bug after filmstars like Amitabh Bachchan and Aamir Khan, however says he was not interested in "films which are only about clinging and hugging each other". "I had told Shahrukh Khan that whenever he is producing a film and needs anyone to do the role of a politician, I am always there. I also assured him that I can do justice to the role, so that a common man is able to relate with a true politician," Lalu said in a blog posting in entertainment portal www.Mypopkorn.Com. "Several Bollywood flicks have actors playing the role of a politician. They wear caps like politicians and attempt the roles. People know he is not a true politician and do not appreciate such type of actors who portray politicians in a b...

Four years back the sexy Neha Dhupia sizzled in a film titled, Julie . Is it any coincidence, that in her next much-awaited Akshay Kumar-Katrina Kaif starrer, Singh Is Kinng , Neha's character's name happens to be 'Julie' yet again! "I don't think the Julie connection will ever leave me! Even today when I go up north and to the small towns, people say' Arre Julie Aa Gayi! Since the association is so strong, I said, why not christen my character Julie!" said a thrilled Neha. Was Julie the initial choice? "No! I'm not sure what they had in mind initially! I think it was Rosy," she laughs. On how she landed herself with a juicy role in the film, Neha reveals, "Vipul's (Shah) office approached me. I was slightly apprehensive initially because I wasn't playing the romantic interest. But I was assured that being the girl of the gang, I'd have a plum part. And because I am a sardar in real life as well that hel...

Is Katrina Kaif Trying An Akki Fry?

It looks like hot babe Katrina Kaif has lost her cool on the unwanted rumours created by some part of the media and has decided to rebuff. Recently it was reported that Akshay Kumar, while seated at the IIFA awards with his wife Twinkle, ignored Katrina’s calls. It was also said that Twinkle and Katrina share cold vibes and looked through each other at Vipul Shah's party thrown for his wife Shefali last month. Katrina , listening to all, fumes, “People need to stop imagining so much. This is pure imagination on someone's part. Akshay Kumar came in for the show in the night and left right after as he had a flight to catch. I had dinner with Twinkle and some of her friends after that and even my mom was with me. So what's with these stories?” It’s thus proved that media was throwing imaginative bricks at the otherwise cool Kat. But it’s said that everything, said or drawn, has to have some base. Even imagination must have some stage to stand on. What should we think then? A...

In one instance, he wore a spooky mask and tried to scare Vidya but ended up being caught by her mother who apprehended him thinking he was an intruder. The unit had a good laugh as the prank fell on the prankster. Thirdly, Shahid literally was on a roll by picking up the sport of roller blading from some kids. He became so good at it that the director incorporated scenes of him roller blading in some songs. Shahid is also happy that he is now occupying a space in the genre of romantic comedy. He says,” I’ve been trying for really long time but nobody off...

After Priyanka it’s Katrina for Spice Mobile

Can a man ignore the Spice onslaught? I think not. First it was the very attractive Priyanka Chopra , formerly Miss World who is every man’s fantasy and now comes along the great Katrina Kaif aka Ms Boom from her first film. The question is what is the brand association that Spice mobile is getting from these advertisements? Is it the image of youthfulness, naughtiness and a carefree attitude? Remember, “ Katrina ? No uncle, She is not with me.” Does that mean it refers to the low cost of the mobile, which allows even a teenager with pocket money to buy it? The ad campaigns with Priyanka Chopra did not say much and they were launched during the time when Spice had just begun to tie up with Idea, the service provider. Matters have matured now. Bangkok played perfect host to the IIFA ’s last weekend. The “City of Angels”, known for its incredible hospitality, delivered everything expected of it. But the event itself was not without a good few hiccups. IIFA remains the only movement dedicated to escalating interest in Indian cinema globally. But nine years since it began in London’s Millennium Dome, it still can’t claim the support of the entire industry. Shahrukh Khan was the most notable absentee and a kingdom without its resident baadshah (king) is incomplete, especially considering that he had a hand in 15 of the awards that were handed out (nine for Chak De India including best actor and best picture and six for Om Shanti Om). With the film industry increasingly fractured into various cliques, SRK ’s absence also denied the IIFA’s (a Bachchan domain) of the support of the rest of his circle. So while he holidayed with his family in London, close friends Arjun Rampal, Rani Mukherjee and Farah Khan were also cons...
