Teen Thay Bhai - Movie Review

Teen Thay Bhai - Movie Review As the title says, the film is about on the lives of three brothers of the Gill clan. Their names, as the promo gives away, are funnier than most gags in the film. The eldest and the unreasonably angry one is Chiksi (Om Puri), the quirky excuse-for-a-dentist is Happy (Deepak Dobriyal) and the blissfully idiotic one is Fancy (Shreyas Talpade). Like most screen brothers in comic films, they can't stand each other and end up spouting Punjabi abusives over the most trivial things. So, 'Tere Piyo di' and ''Khottay de puttar' are prefixed to every dialogue. If you care, the plot involves a grandfather's singular will that requires the Gill bros to spend a couple of nights together for three years along with grandpa's remains at a godforsaken ice-covered hill house that they would inherit, if they do so. The rest is as predictable as yesterday's news. The trio realize that united-they-get-rich and divided-they-go-home-scr

Mirch - Movie Review

Mirch a; comedy Dir: Vinay Shukla Cast: Konkona Sen Sharma, Raima Sen, Arunoday Singh, Shreyas Talpade, Shahana Goswami, Rajpal Yadav, Sushant Ray, Prem Chopra and Boman Irani Movie: ** Mirch Movie About? Although we have seen a lot of films telling several short stories that come together in the end Life In A... Metro, and Love, Sex And Dhoka this one is different. It's a film within a film. It's a tongue-in-cheek look at the film industry and the struggle faced by B-Town writers. A struggling writer Maanav (Singh) is trying to sell his script to a producer (Ray). He narrates four stories, inspired from various classics ranging from Amar Chitra Katha to Boccaccio's Decameron all based on the theme of adultery, committed by married women. The stories are sexy, naughty and writer-director Vinay Shukla binds these love affairs with one common subject infidelity. What's HOT: Kudos to the director for picking a unique subject. The writing is clever and h

Paying Guest - Movie Review

Paying Guests isn’t exactly what the doctor ordered at this time immediately after the producer-multiplex conflict got over, but it serves as a good prelude to the big budget movies following it in the coming weeks, as it will only increase the hunger of the audience to watch a good movie. Mind you, it’s not bad but it’s not good either. It has its funny moments where you jump from your seat laughing but it lacks the style and in some parts the treatment is pathetic. It tries to live up to the style and sleekness of Dostana but fails miserably. The story revolves around four guys (Shreyas Talpade, Javed Jaffery, Aashish Choudhary, Vatsal Seth) , three of whom have been fired from their jobs and have also been asked to vacate the house where they stay as pg’s by the owner Asrani. In their effort to find a place to stay in, they stumble upon a house which is owned by Johnny Lever and Dilnaz Paul, but the catch is that the people staying in the house have to be married. So taking a c

Bollywood’s new poster boys

The rise of unheroic heroes may well be attributed to the current climate in the Hindi film industry, where every producer, distributor and exhibitor is driven by the numbers game, writes Derek Bose We have had actors. And we have had stars. We have also had star-actors like Balraj Sahni, Sanjeev Kumar and Naseeruddin Shah. Others like Amitabh Bachchan and Saif Ali Khan could perhaps be called ‘acting-stars’, since they have already attained stardom and are only now concentrating seriously on their craft as actors. But what would you call such emerging talent as Vinay Pathak, Kay Kay Menon, Shreyas Talpade, Ranvir Shorey and Rajat Kapoor? They are no doubt gifted artistes. But they have not been around long enough for audiences to gauge their versatility or histrionic strengths in adequate measure. Moreover, they do not possess the looks, charisma or the fan following most established stars enjoy. And yet, they are showing up unfailingly in every other Hindi film hitting the screen the
