Ramayan Returns: Hrithik Roshan to play the Lord Rama

Sanjay Khan, a secular Muslim whose family members have married into every conceivable religion and community and who once produced a controversial television serial on the life of the notorious Islamic invader Tipu Sultan, is all set to do his own big-screen take on the Ramayan. Throwing light on this precious epic project Sanjay Khan's son Zayed says, "Yes, my father is indeed making the Ramayan. It's called The Legend Of Rama. He has been planning this film for three years. But he needed the perfect Rama. And who but Hrithik would be perfect for the role? Earlier Hrithik had no dates. But now he's doing very selected films." As for Zayed as Laxman the young actor who will be seen as the pampered younger brother Subhash Ghai's Yuvraaj chuckles, "Playing Laxman in one form or another is the story of my life." Amitabh Bachchan had been approached to play Dashrath two years ago. And it's likely that he would continue being functional in that role.

Mumbai attacks put Bollywood on hold

The ripple effects of the militant attacks on Mumbai are being felt by the city's Bollywood film industry, with premieres and new releases postponed until fear subsides. Glitzy parties and even celebrity weddings have also been put off, as India's entertainment capital reels from the assaults that claimed 188 lives and left 313 others injured. Red carpet premieres -- usually held here on Fridays -- and other screenings have been cancelled as filmgoers stay away from cinemas and other public places. "I have never seen this low turnout of audiences in theatres," said Vishal Anand, marketing vice-president of the Fun Cinemas chain. "The fear has taken over people's minds. On Friday, only 30 people turned out in one of our theatres in Mumbai. Business has been hit very badly." The attacks also hit movies that had just been released. Box office takings of two big films that made their debut as the tragedy unfolded were badly affected, leading industry analyst

Watching his kissing scene embarrassed : Zayed Khan

Zayed Khan locked lips on screen for the first time in director Subhash Ghai's newly released film Yuvvraaj and says he was embarrassed to watch the scene with his wife and other family members. "Firstly, I've never done intimate scenes like these on screen. I'm a family man with a wife and a son. And to watch the scenes with my parents at the premiere gave me the shivers. What would they think? On top of it all, it was our marriage anniversary. What a gift for my wife," said Zayed. Fortunately, Zayed's wife Malaika was quite 'cool' about the intimate scene with Amrit Maghera. The film, also starring Salman Khan, Anil Kapoor and Katrina Kaif, was released on November 21 but didn't get an encouraging response at the box office. According to a source, it took all of Ghai's persuasive powers to convince Zayed that a lip-to-lip was very much the order of the day. "It isn't just a kiss in Yuvvraaj . It was a huge smooching spree between

"I will go solo too" - Riteish Deshmukh

One suspects Riteish Deshmukh to get irritated, in fact really irritated, on being prodded incessantly about his long delayed solo hero act. However, to one's pleasant surprise, he is quite patient when the query is raised and surprises by saying that going solo is indeed in his mind now. "If you look at my career graph in last few months, I have been making a conscious effort to be seen with lesser heroes around me", he smiles, "I have been seen in four hero films and also three hero films. Off late, I am also making progress on being a part of two hero films. Soon it should be time to solo too!" In last few months, Riteish has been seen in Cash ( Ajay Devgan, Suneil Shetty, Zayed Khan ) and Dhamaal (Sanjay Dutt, Arshad Warsi, Javed Jaffrey, Aashish Chaudhary) where he was surrounded by number of men. Earlier too, Malamaal Weekly and Apna Sapna Money Money were multi starrers though the latter clearly had Riteish as the key man. Later he went on to del

Abhishek is Zayed's inspiration

Zayed Khan, the son of actor-director Sanjay Khan, says he could have ended up becoming a spoilt star son if it hadn't been for Abhishek Bachchan . "Yeah, I guess I could've become that horrific entity known as the pampered and spoilt brat. But I held on. I always look at Abhishek (Bachchan)'s example to see how tough things can be for a kid from a film family," Zayed said. Zayed, who was seen as Shah Rukh Khan 's prankster younger brother in Main Hoon Na , also holds brother-in-law Hrithik Roshan in high esteem. "I guess this penchant to prove a point runs in my family. Look at Duggu ( Hrithik ). He has been quite a portrait of defiant self-improvement." So is Zayed's brother-in-law a source of inspiration too? "Not in any direct way. Not that I take any tips from him or anything. But, yes, we are a close-knit family. Duggu and I go back a long way. In fact, we knew each other before he got to know my sister Susanne." Was there any s

Jha Mumbai, Nov 12 (IANS) Katrina Kaif is infuriated with reports suggesting that Subhash Ghai has signed her for his new directorial venture Main Yuvraj on Salman Khan's recommendation. "It's so stupid to think like that, specially now when I have 'Namaste London' to my credit. Actually, I met Subhashji long before. He had offered me a film. I think it was 'Kisna'. Now for 'Main Yuvraj' he asked Vipul Shah to show him my work in 'Namaste London'. That's how I think he decided on me," Katrina told IANS. Trying to curb her annoyance at Salman-centric interpretations to her career progress, Katrina said: "Do people think Subhashji is the kind of filmmaker who can be influenced by people into signing anyone? He has always gone by what is right for his film." Katrina play
