Corporates Feel The Heat, EROS May Not Back Salman Khans ´Veer´

Corporates may deny and individual producers may pretend that nothing is amiss but the fact is that all is not well. Every corporate is rethinking about its commitments and, if need be, even backing out of committed films which it had contracted to either produce jointly with individual producers or distribute all over India. Eros is tight-lipped about Vijay Galani’s 'Veer', starring Salman Khan and being directed by Anil Sharma, but the fact is that the company is reworking on the budget. If the period film has to move forward, the stars and technicians, it is learnt, would have to slash their prices. Eros has also kept several other productions on hold. Big is asking the producers with whom it had entered into joint venture deals, to look for distributors as it may not be inclined to release the film in the various territories. Indian Films has reportedly taken a decision internally, to lie low and refrain from acquiring films for worldwide distribution, no matter what!

Salman Khan’s disappearing act

It is believed that producer Boney Kapoor used to have butterflies in his stomach when his lead actor Salman Khan used to run off early in the evening from the sets of Wanted Dead Or Alive . But what made Salman do that? If you think he used to spend evenings partying with his friends then you are wrong. Salman was shooting in Greece with actor turned director Prabhu Deva for Wanted Dead Or Alive . “He loved the natural beauty that Greece had to offer and that inspired Salman Bhai to get into some landscape painting. He used to disappear in the evening from the set as soon as they finished the shoot. Salman thoroughly enjoyed painting in Greece,” reveals a unit hand. Apparently Salman, who has earlier made semi religious paintings, has changed his style. This is for the first time he indulged in landscape painting which he has never done before. It is believed that a painter conveys his feelings through his paintings, it’s only after we have a look at Sallu’s paintings

The 43-year-old actor, who has a large fan base among the Malays, held the estimated 1,000 guests at the investiture spellbound as he received the Darjah Mulia Seri Melaka (DMSM), conferred on him and 76 others. Aamir’s Macho Look Impressed SRK Khan

Aamir Khan’s hindi version of ‘Ghajini’ is the most awaited film of this year, which will be released on December 25, 2008. Moreover, Aamir Khan’s macho look in the movie has impressed audiences a lot. Seems like many others, sleek promos of ‘Ghajini’ and Aamir Khan’s look have left an impact on SRK’s mind. The rumor is that Bollywood Badshah has now zeroed in on Aamir and he is very much excited to do a film with Mr. Perfectionist. Cinematographer Ravi K Chandran who has shot the actor’s projects ‘Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi’ and ‘My Name is Khan’ is said to have recommended Murugadoss. A few people from Shahrukh’s Red Chillies Entertainment met him recently to talk about some screenplays. But, things would be decided by first week of January 2009 after the finals results of ‘Ghajini’ are out. In fact South Indian Actress Asin, the female actress in ‘Ghajini’, has given her sanction that she would give her dates to the project. Reportedly the filmmaker had plans to work with Southern a

Bollywood’s new poster boys

The rise of unheroic heroes may well be attributed to the current climate in the Hindi film industry, where every producer, distributor and exhibitor is driven by the numbers game, writes Derek Bose We have had actors. And we have had stars. We have also had star-actors like Balraj Sahni, Sanjeev Kumar and Naseeruddin Shah. Others like Amitabh Bachchan and Saif Ali Khan could perhaps be called ‘acting-stars’, since they have already attained stardom and are only now concentrating seriously on their craft as actors. But what would you call such emerging talent as Vinay Pathak, Kay Kay Menon, Shreyas Talpade, Ranvir Shorey and Rajat Kapoor? They are no doubt gifted artistes. But they have not been around long enough for audiences to gauge their versatility or histrionic strengths in adequate measure. Moreover, they do not possess the looks, charisma or the fan following most established stars enjoy. And yet, they are showing up unfailingly in every other Hindi film hitting the screen the

"The movie is about a Muslim person's strife (in telling) people that 'my name is Khan but I am not a terrorist'," Khan told reporters after being conferred the governors' award in the southwestern Malaysian state of Malacca in recognition of his 2001 film "One 2 Ka 4", which was set there and boosted its profile as a tourist destination. The Indian Muslim actor, whose wife is Hindu, also condemned religious fundamentalism and denounced acts of violence, saying that the Koran does not preach terror. "Islam does not in any which way tell you to be violent," he said. "I think the wh

Salman Khan family under attack

Bollywood biggies Amitabh Bachchan family and Shahrukh Khan were attacked by Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray recently, terming them as anti-Maharashtrians. Now, another Bollywood superstar is being attacked, and he is Controversy King Salman Khan. But this time, it is the Muslim organisations and not the MNS that is targeting him. Salman is an embodiment of tolerance. He celebrates all festivals every year be it Id, Christmas, Diwali or Ganesh festival. This year is no exception. He celebrated Ganesha in a grand manner at his residence recently. However, the Muslim leaders have come down heavily on him this time around. Mufti Manjar Hassan Khan Ashrafi Misbahi, the chief of Darul-Uloom Hijaziya Chishti, has issued fatwa against the entire Khan family. Salman is keeping silent over the issue but his father Salim Khan is not happy. He said on a television channel that people's religious beliefs should not be questioned. Masand's Verdict: Dil Kabaddi a shameless rip off

Cast: Irfan Khan, Soha Ali Khan, Rahul Bose, Konkona Sensharma, Rahul Khanna Director: Anil Senior Like Woody Allen's sharp ensemble piece Husbands And Wives -- of which it is a shameless, shameless copy -- Dil Kabaddi is a biting satire on marriage and fidelity. Propelled by its characters and the shifting dynamics of their relationships, the film abandons the conventional three-act structure in favor of a more fluid narrative. Irrfan Khan and Soha Ali Khan play a couple that has decided to amicably separate after two years of marriage. This news comes as a shock to their seemingly happily married best friends, played by Rahul Bose and Konkona Sensharma, who, encouraged by their friends' separation, decide to pursue their own individual desires. Whacking not just the premise, but practically every plot point and every scene from the original film, Dil Kabaddi follows each of the four characters as they head out to seek happiness. But one thing he's definitely not known for is gracing magazine covers, and giving in depth interviews. So it comes as a surprise that Aamir is featured on the December issue of men's magazine GQ India! That's not the only surprising thing. The fact that Karan Johar, who's pro Shahrukh Khan, is the contributing editor, as well as the interviewer for Aamir's piece makes it all that more special. It should be interesting to read about what the two chatted about. Aamir graced the cover to promote his new film, 'Ghajini' which hits theatres on December 25th.

Mumbai attacks put Bollywood on hold

The ripple effects of the militant attacks on Mumbai are being felt by the city's Bollywood film industry, with premieres and new releases postponed until fear subsides. Glitzy parties and even celebrity weddings have also been put off, as India's entertainment capital reels from the assaults that claimed 188 lives and left 313 others injured. Red carpet premieres -- usually held here on Fridays -- and other screenings have been cancelled as filmgoers stay away from cinemas and other public places. "I have never seen this low turnout of audiences in theatres," said Vishal Anand, marketing vice-president of the Fun Cinemas chain. "The fear has taken over people's minds. On Friday, only 30 people turned out in one of our theatres in Mumbai. Business has been hit very badly." The attacks also hit movies that had just been released. Box office takings of two big films that made their debut as the tragedy unfolded were badly affected, leading industry analyst
