Bollywood-ishtyle entertainment

The evening started with none other than Shah Rukh Khan telling the auditorium full of guests that dreams do come true... but first, you must dare to dream. Alright, King Khan wasn’t there in person, but he was there nonetheless, larger than life on the big screen . And closely following his words were the producers of the mega- musical City of Dreams — the Morani brothers Mohomad and Ali, and Ashvin Gidwani — who dared to dream and on Friday, realised their dream of creating India’s first Bollywood musical. With Mumbai being the protagonist here, along with Bollywood, it was no surprise to see the Bollywood-crazy Mumbaiites flock to the venue to catch three hours of OTT Bollywood-ishtyle entertainment . Ishitaa Arun was there much too early, enjoying the pre-production buzz along with the producers. TV actress Narayani Shastri was backstage too, keeping her better half Gaurav Chopraa who stars in the musical, company. Anusha Dandekar made a style statement wearing a trendy hat;

'I have offers from three Bollywood film-makers'

Think of Amitav Ghosh and the picture that leaps to mind is of a grave, sophisticated writer. He is all of the above. He's also what one would expect a visiting professor at Harvard and a recipient of the Padma Shri and the Arthur C Clarke awards to be. But what is delightfully refreshing are the stories the much-feted tells-some even more engrossing than the ones he writes. Like how the research for his new book, Sea Of Poppies, had him watching old Bhojpuri films. "Oh, they're hilarious! There's slapstick comedy, stupid fun, the music is wonderful and the sound of the Bhojpuri language is so sweet... Of the many I saw, one title that comes to mind is Maa Jaisan Bhauji Hamar," he chuckles. Has he seen any of the latest ones? "With Manoj Tewari?" he asks, surprisingly well-informed on infra dig issues. "No. I hear they're typical Bollywoodish fare." So Bollywood doesn't appeal to him? "No, no... I used to love old Raj Kapoor mov

Salman's steals TRP thunder from Hrithik

it was Amitabh Bachchan with Kaun Banega Crorepati , in 2008 it was Shah Rukh Khan for Kya Aap Paanchvi Paas Se Tez Hain but it seems Salman Khan is slowly stealing the TRP thunder with his Dus Ka Dum with TAM ratings showing that the show has now garnered a peak rating of 4.5 while King Khan's show got 4.14 in its first week. The TAM ratings which were out on Thursday, reveal that the show which has Salman Khan, giving away Rs 10 crore to anyone who answers five questions, has taken over Hrithik Roshan's Junoon Kuch Kar Dikhane Ka which garnered a very low rating of 1.1. So does that mean that Salman Khan's popularity overrides that of other actors? "4.6 is a pretty good figure in today’s day and age. During KBC 's time were getting 14-plus TRPs but now all of them are hovering around four and five. So it’s good,” says VP, India Media Exchange, Sejal Shah. Of course the quantum of viewers watching these game shows being hosted by famous actors is reducing over

Sallu ban gaya KING KHAN!

Who is the real King Khan ? If TV ratings are anything to go by, it is Salman and not Shah Rukh ! And Sallu has bested the Bollywood Badshah by a decent margin. The game show he hosts on Sony, ‘Dus ka Dum’, was the numero uno on the first day, according to Amap’s six metro ratings. The show garnered an average TVR of 2.81 and a peak rating of 4.5. Shah Rukh’s show in Star Plus, ‘Kya Aap Paanchvi Paas Se Tez hai?’ came a distant second with an average rating of 1.37 TVR and a peak rating of 2.3. ‘Paanchvi Paas’, which had begun much earlier, got punched on the chin by the IPL cricket in the beginning and has now been mopped by a muscular Sallu. Amap, a TAM rival, is a widely followed TV-rating agency. ‘Dus ka Dum’ was launched on June 6. Hrithik Roshan’s ‘Junoon — Kuch Kar Dikhane Ka’, launched on the same day in NDTV Imagine, managed only an average TVR of 0.76; the peak rating was 1.1, much less than that of the one hosted by Shatrughan Sinha in Star One, ‘The Great Indian
