Rakesh Roshan will direct another 'Krissh' film

What will he direct next? Rakesh Roshan has more or less decided to make another super-hero film. "But we've to make sure that the screenplay goes beyond what we did in 'Koi…Mil Gaya' and 'Krissh'. And also all the other super-hero films that have come from Hollywood lately. The genre, I feel has been done to the optimum. The fight between a super-hero and a super-villain has to be pitched right. The content has to be really strong." Hrithik had expressed a desire to play the super-villain. "But that is not possible," laughs Rakesh Roshan. "We need another big star to play the super-villain. The fight has to be evenly pitched." But before that in June, Rakesh Roshan starts his film with Anurag Basu. "He's very talented. I saw his 'Gangster' and 'Metro'. He definitely has a great script-sense." Although the trailers of Rakesh Roshan's production, 'Krazzy 4' were supposed to start from Fri

Pakistan may make Bollywood legal

Bollywood movies are very popular in Pakistan despite the ban Pakistani cinema goers may soon get to watch their favourite Bollywood films if the government clears a proposal by its MPs to remove a ban on them. Officially Indian films are banned in Pakistan, a prohibition dating back to the 1965 war between the two countries. Authorities have made exceptions - three films were allowed in 2006. Cinema owners in Pakistan are keen to screen Bollywood films, but local filmmakers fear an influx would harm the Pakistani film industry. Now a parliamentary committee on culture has recommended to the government that the ban on Indian films should be removed. "We have devised a mechanism for allowing the import of Indian films for a period of one year, after which the arrangements can be reviewed," senator Zafar Iqbal Chaudhry, who headed the committee told the Press Trust of India news agency. Indian health minister tells Bollywood stars to stop smoking

Bollywood superstars Shah Rukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan have been told by India's health minister to stop setting a bad example by smoking in public. "Again I would like to make an appeal, not only to Mr Shah Rukh Khan, but also to Amitabh Bachchan and to all the other personalities. Children are being affected," Anbumani Ramadoss told the CNN-IBN television news channel. Ramadoss, who has been campaigning for a ban on smoking on screen, said Sunday he was "very concerned about (the) alarming rise of incidences of young people getting addicted to tobacco." The minister said his plea was for an end to smoking "in public but also in the movies." "There shouldn't be any smoking scenes in movies because we have statistics showing that 52 percent of children have their first puff of cigarette due to movie celebrities," the minister said. The 42-year Khan, credited with two of India's biggest box office hits last year, reacted sharply to t

Ajay Devgan: the dark horse of Bollywood

New Delhi, Jan 27 (IANS) Amitabh Bachchan once called Ajay Devgan the "Dark Horse" of the film industry. But he is also proving to be a winning tortoise with his slow and steady growth. He is on the roll. After a forgettable 2007, he has started off this year with a bang. The intense actor, who is known for breaking the rules now and then, first charmed critics with his power-packed performance in Rajkumar Santoshi's "Halla Bol" and is now trying to tickle the funny bone in Rohit Shetty's "Sunday" that released this week. His roles in both films are in complete contrast to each other. While in "Halla Bol" he is an actor-turned-activist, in fun-filled action thriller "Sunday" he is a corrupt cop. Very soon the actor will turn director with his directorial debut film "U Me Aur Hum", schedule to release in April. Once tipped as the successor for angry-young-man roles immortalised by Amitabh Bachchan, Ajay has always made

Old Hindi songs now remixed as Bollywood titles

Popular Hindi film songs are never forgotten; they are recycled. Remixes have given a new life to many numbers and now film titles are inspired by them. Creative borrowing is the name of the game in Bollywood. Stories and music compositions are often lifted from the West, but there are some filmmakers who are fascinated with popular Hindi songs and use them in their movie titles. Aditya Chopra should take the cake for popularising the trend with his directorial debut "Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge" (DDLJ). The title of the puppy love story was taken from the popular song "Le jayenge, le jayenge, dilwale dulhania le jayenge" from the 1974 movie "Chor Machaye Shor". DDLJ was a phenomenal hit and it made Shah Rukh Khan a superstar. It has been running in Mumbai's Maratha Mandir theatre for the last 12 years. Some of the recent titles are a constant reminder of the old tunes, which caught the audience's fancy and are still hummable. It also confirms fi
