Bollywood Actress Preity Zinta adopts 34 orphans on her birthday

In a symbolic gesture, the vivacious girl of Bollywood, Preity Zinta , adopted 34 orphaned girls on her 34th birthday. Preity has always been a responsible and conscientious citizen. But on her birthday on Saturday, the dimpled damsel did something noble and worth applauding. She adopted orphaned girls from Mother Miracle School in Hrishikesh. As their guardian, Preity will take care of finances for their basic needs like food, clothing and education. The actress also went verbal about her city, Mumbai. She urged all Mumbaikars to keep the city clean. She realized this after watching Slumdog Millionaire and wants to clean up slums that are mushrooming in Mumbai because of unchecked immigrants. Preity was in Punjab for Punjab Cup Matches but she sneaked out to Mumbai for a day to celebrate her birthday with friends. On adopting girls, Preity is quoted as saying that every year she will adopt some more girls. And on the contrary side, Preity’s birthday party on Saturday night saw an unwa

Bubbly, fizzy and zesty Bollywood Actresss Preity Zinta has turned 34 today and she has a whole list of birthday wishes and the top on her wishlist is an ID card for every person living in Mumbai. “It’s the only way to keep Mumbai from turning into a larger slum,” she vows. Preity Zinta will be working hard on her birthday. “The Punjab Cup matches go on right up to Feb 2. So I’m in Punjab. But for my birthday, I have sneaked back to Mumbai for a day. My thoughts on my birthday are, I want to stop thinking and start doing things. It breaks my heart to see the slums in Bandra just opposite where I stay. People live like animals there!” High on her list of priorities for her birthday today is a determination to do her best to clean out her city. “After Slumdog Millionaire, I realised, ‘Shit, this is how Mumbai is being seen in the West! Oh My God! Salman…you look so good: Preity Zinta

Preity, with your next film Heroes coming up. Are you nervous or excited? Frankly speaking, I am very excited. I was nervous when I was shooting for the film. It was a very difficult role for me, because it was not in my comfort zone as an actor. This role was something that I have not attempted before. For instance, when someone offers me a role of an NRI, I can play that role with ease because it's in my comfort zone. But my role in Heroes has got a very rural flavor to it. It's a role of a simple girl from a village, who speaks Punjabi and is a woman of the soil. She works on a tractor and makes rotis in a village house. In that sense, it's a very different kind of role. What is the name of your character in the film and can you oblige us by giving a sneak peak into the lives of 'Heroes'? The name of my character is Kuljeet Kaur, who is an Indian by every inch. And as far as the 'sneak peak' into the film is concerned, all I can say is that

What are some of the steps that will be taken to ensure the prevention of global warming? Some very basic steps are being taken. Not flying on chartered flights, reducing the consumptio

Shahrukh Khan snubs IIFA even though his movies scoop 15 awards

Bangkok played perfect host to the IIFA ’s last weekend. The “City of Angels”, known for its incredible hospitality, delivered everything expected of it. But the event itself was not without a good few hiccups. IIFA remains the only movement dedicated to escalating interest in Indian cinema globally. But nine years since it began in London’s Millennium Dome, it still can’t claim the support of the entire industry. Shahrukh Khan was the most notable absentee and a kingdom without its resident baadshah (king) is incomplete, especially considering that he had a hand in 15 of the awards that were handed out (nine for Chak De India including best actor and best picture and six for Om Shanti Om). With the film industry increasingly fractured into various cliques, SRK ’s absence also denied the IIFA’s (a Bachchan domain) of the support of the rest of his circle. So while he holidayed with his family in London, close friends Arjun Rampal, Rani Mukherjee and Farah Khan were also cons

Where is Shah Rukh Khan?

A bevy of Bollywood stars including Akshay Kumar , Salman Khan , Preity Zinta and the four Bachchans have descended on Bangkok but Indians living here are missing Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan . "Is Shah Rukh Khan coming?" is what most cine fans are asking the visiting Indian media. They wear a disappointed look on learning that their favourite actor will be giving the show a miss. Many families here say they bought passes for the award night just to get a glimpse of King Khan .

IPL A Big Hit With The Big Stars

Flying daily through India's over-congested airports is a guaranteed recipe for countless delays. Fortunately this affords one the opportunity to engage in numerous chats with affable strangers. Aas everyone in India is a cricket expert and the action packed IPL is in full swing, there is in no shortage of subject matter for a good old cricket-focused chinwag with someone you have only known for a few moments. The best is when you are actually on a plane chatting to your neighbour about last night's big game, when the guy in the row in front turns around and joins in. This is usually enough for one or two more aficionados to add their opinion. If you're mad about cricket, there is no better country to be in than India. A few days ago I was waiting to board a delayed flight at the brand spanking new Rajiv Ghandi airport in Hyderabad. Actually it is 45 kilometres outside Hyderabad, a two-hour taxi ride from the cricket ground. I was waiting in the departure hall for a de

Preity Zinta and Salman Khan: Jaded glamour at derby

Bollywood stars Salman Khan and Preity Zinta added jaded glamour to the CN Wadia Gold Cup Million Derby at Mahalakshmi Race Course, Mumbai, Sunday evening, March 9, 2008. Salman Khan was the chief guest at the event hosted by socialite Maureen Wadia, mother of industrialist Ness Wadia, who attended with girlfriend Preity Zinta. Zinta rested the eye in a wide brimmed black hat with a white satiny cut-away shoulder blouse tucked in a black A-line skirt with a broad black belt. Her blouse was adorned with three white and black fabric roses on the left shoulder. She matched her ensemble with a black clutch, white and black peep toe pumps with a bow detail and pearl drop earrings. We liked Zinta's Audrey Hepburn style hat that went perfectly with her dimpled smiling face but were disappointed with the rest of the ensemble, most of all with the poorly tailored blouse and belted skirt. We don't think it is good idea to mix religion with fashion - the faded red mauli threads on her

SRK, Preity plan music videos for their IPL teams

With the Great Indian victory down under, cricket is surely the flavor of the season. While India’s next series is the three Test series against the South Africans at home, fans are actually looking forward to the grand launch of probably cricket’s biggest event, the prestigious IPL (Indian Premiere League) which kicks off from April 18th. Adding glamour to the cricketing action would be the presence of Bollywood stars Shah Rukh Khan and Preity Zinta who own the franchise of the Kolkata and Mohali teams respectively. Needless to say both Khan and Zinta are leaving no stone unturned to get maximum publicity for their teams. The latest news doing the rounds is that SRK has roped in good friend Ganesh Hegde to choreograph and direct a music video for his Kolkata team. A source, close to Hegde, confirmed the news, “Yes, Ganesh is doing the music video for SRK. We can’t reveal much about the video.” When asked if it would feature King Khan, the source remained tight-lipped but later hinted,

A more business-savvy Preity turns 33

Preity Zinta , the vivacious, dimple-cheeked Bollywood star , celebrates her 33rd birthday on Thursday with greater confidence in her abilities and demonstrating a little known business acumen with the recent bagging of the franchise of the Mohali team in cricket's Indian Premier League. Preity would have had a big do to mark the occasion had her professional commitments not come in the way, according to a source close to her. However, she has ensured that the 'big day' in her life is not all work and no play. She will celebrate, but it will be a quiet one. Who are included in her private party's guest list is also kept under wraps to avoid media scrutiny. One person who will stand beside Preity to cheer her and sing "Happy Birthday To Dear Preity" the loudest will be her beau, Ness Wadia, the scion of the Wadia family who runs Bombay Dyeing. Professionally, after a decade in the industry, Preity is now bold enough to tread on uncharted territories with

Preity Zinta to have her New Year bash in Phuket

She has just finished her shooting as a battered wife for Deepa Mehta’s ‘ Heaven On Earth ’ and now, actress Preity Zinta is off to Phuket, Thailand with her friends to welcome the new year. Shooting for the film has drained Preity emotionally and she needs a break badly. “Deepa Mehta and ‘Heaven On Earth’ have proved eye openers for me. But the film was tough on me emotionally. In the month that I was in Toronto, I went out just twice and that too to maintain my sanity. I really need a break now,” says Preity. Preity had only one release this year, “Jhoom Barabar Jhoom’ which bombed at the box-office. Preity will return from her vacation in the second week of January with a clear date diary. “I haven’t said yes to any of the scripts I’ve heard. I’ll take a call when I return from my holiday. But yes, 2007 has been my year of unconventional films. So 2008 will probably be a year of hardcore masala movies,” adds the bubbly actress. Source
