Case registered against Bollywood star for “vulgar” Levi’s Unbuttoned catwalk stunt

Mumbai police have registered a case against top Bollywood star Akshay Kumar, his wife Twinkle and the organisers of Lakme Indian Fashion Week, after Twinkle unbuttoned her husband’s jeans during a Levi’s fashion show at the just concluded LIFW in Mumbai. This stunt was aimed at highlighting the Levi’s Unbuttoned campaign.

Mumbai police said they acted after a complaint was lodged against Akshay and Twinkle by social campaigner Anil Nair, who called the performance “vulgar and indecent”.

“We saw newspaper clippings and video footage of the show before registering an FIR under Section 294 of the IPC. A public prosecutor was also consulted,” senior inspector S Neklikar told an Indian newspaper. The offence is bailable.

“We will now record statements of people in the audience. Arrests won’t take place immediately.”

India's obscenity laws are punishable by a maximum of two years in jail and a fine of Rs2,000.

The actor has apologised for the incident.

Talk about her ‘shapely’ success, and Rani says, “Believe me, I didn’t starve at all. I love my food, especially rice and sweets. There was no way I was giving up all that. So, I just worked out harder and was occasionally allowed my ‘cheat’ meals of rice, sweets, etc. ...
