Bollywood recognised me post Big Boss: Ravi

Ravi Kishan
Ravi Kishan.
Well folks, 2008 may add a dash of Bhojpuri flavour to the Bollywood flicks! Hold on, we’ll tell you what we mean by that. The uncrowned king of Bhojpuri cinema – Ravi Kishan –is all set to make his presence felt in Bollywood this year! His kitty is brimming with interesting roles, big banners and equally big co-stars.

Talking to KT about how he got the role in Ganesh Acharya's Money Hai To Honey Hai, Kishan informs, “Ganeshji is my mentor. It is from him that I learnt dancing. It was he who approached me for the movie. I play the role of a millionaire called Vimal while Govinda, Manoj Bajpai, Aftab and Upen Patel are all playing conmen. The movie is about how all of them land in Mauritius and dupe this millionaire. It is a humorous movie and we had lots of fun during its shooting.”

Carrying on in the same vein, Ravi adds, “Besides Money Hai To Honey Hai I am working in a movie called Luck with Sanjay Dutt in which I play the role of a psycho. The movie also stars Mithunji (Mithun Chakraborty) and Dannyji (Danny Denzongpa). Besides this, I am working in Sunil Shetty’s Loot along with Govinda. I play the role of an Interpol officer in the movie.”

The Bhojpuri star has also bagged the chance to work with a veteran director like Shyam Benegal in a romantic comedy Mahadev Ka Sajjanpur! “It was a real honour for me to work in this project for two reasons. Firstly, because it was Shyamji’s project and secondly because it’s a very different film – a romantic comedy in the form of a satire. I play a very crucial role in it. The movie is set in the backdrop of rural India and I play the role of a villager who falls in love with a bal vidhva,” he avers.

The actor is humble enough to accept that the reality show Big Boss opened the doors of Bollywood for him! “It is true that post Big Boss I was recognised as an efficient actor in Bollywood and since then there has been no looking back by God’s grace,” he says.

The actor has also been chosen as the brand ambassador of a soon to be launched Bhojpuri channel. “The channel is called ‘Mahua’ and will be launched on June 24th. It is being launched by producer Pramod Tiwari. Just like the other channels it too will have a mix of romantic serials, talent hunts and family soaps,” he shares.

Kishan is also happy with the fact that his production house is all set to roll out a movie titled Bihari Mafia. “Handling things from a producer’s perspective teaches the commercial side of the cinema. That’s why I have started my own production house. I would also be acting in this movie,” he avers.

Sharing his experience of working with Amitabh Bachchan in Ganga, Kishan says, “There are few things which make people great. Trust me I haven’t seen a more punctual man then Amitabhji. If the shoot was scheduled at 9 am he used to reach the set at 8:45 am even when he was not feeling well. But I had lots of fun teaching him how to speak Bhojpuri.”

And commenting on the phenomenal success of Bhojpuri films, Kishan says: “Today Bhojpuri cinema is a Rs 1000-crore industry and approximately 90 movies in this dialect are made each year! Besides, acting in Bhojpuri films is opening the doors of Bollywood for many youngsters.”

Rani Mukherjee's sexy in her bikini

Bollywood Actress Rani Mukherjee's sexy in her bikini In Dil Bole Hadippa Believe it or not, but the whole ‘bikini top ‘n’ skimpy shorts’ avatar in short — flaunting Rani Mukerji’s hot new bod wasn’t her idea. Not even the producer or director had anything to do with it. After she realised how much she had toned up (to play a male cricketer in Dil Bole Hadippa!), Rani just happened to discuss this idea with her designer friend Manish Malhotra. And from there on it was Manish’s game plan, after all, he’s transformed many a Bollywood girl in to glam queens. He suggested that it would be a pity to waste such a well-toned body by not showing it off. That’s how the idea of a special song was born. And is she looking hot? Talk about her ‘shapely’ success, and Rani says, “Believe me, I didn’t starve at all. I love my food, especially rice and sweets. There was no way I was giving up all that. So, I just worked out harder and was occasionally allowed my ‘cheat’ meals of rice, sweets, etc.

Bollywood: John Abraham’s Slum Connection

Bollywood New Movie Slumdog Millionaire has definitely made the slums of Mumbai a little popular. Perhaps this is why they are so welcoming to every director who wants to make a film on their lifestyle. John Abraham’s fortcoming film Hook Ya Crook is also one of those films shot in the Chikalwadi Chawl of Mumbai. This film is directed by David Dhawan and John Abraham playes a cricketer who resides in the chawl. In a song John and Genelia D’Souza dance to a tapori-ish number with the typical tapori dance steps. The residents of the slum were delighted to see the stars around and cheered for the unit as they worked. John Abraham added to their delight by giving them autographs and taking pictures with them.
